First things first

9:41 AM

First things first, let me introduce myself. My name is Alexia Rebing, I was born in Mexico City, I live in a town that is about an hour away, called Cuernavaca. I am 19 years old, soon to be 20, and I just started studying Marketing and Communications last August.

I have always been interested in fashion. When I was about 10 years old, I suddenly decided I wanted to be a fashion designer one day. I started sketching (more like doodling, I could barely draw a smiley face), and that’s what I would do all day long. I would play dress up games on the Internet, I would play dress up with my Barbies all day long, so on and so forth. As the years went by, I started to realize that I wasn’t good at designing clothes; I mean I can draw but nothing out of this world. So I began looking into other areas of the fashion industry, and other careers that interested me. Architecture, interior design, international business, industrial design, international relations, man, I even though about becoming a surgeon (yup, crazy times, I blame Grey’s Anatomy and Doctor House). I started to notice how I am a creative and artistic person, yet I have a business point of view of life, so I finally decided to study Marketing and Communications, and even though I’m only starting, I can really tell you, I couldn’t have made a better choice, it really suits me.

So for you to get a bigger sense of who I am, I will tell you a little bit about my hobbies and interests. My favorite movies of all time are Titanic, Peter Pan, The Parent Trap and The Devil Wears Prada. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched the last two, seriously, it’s ridiculous. I’m also a Fashion Police junkie and huge admiror of her majesty, Joan Rivers. My favorite stores are Forever 21 (duh), H&M, Sphera, ALDO, Zara, Victoria's Secret and Coach. Designer wise, I love Chanel, Prada, Dior, Versace, Balenciaga, Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs. I love music, I’m kind of alternative in that way. I love Lana del Rey, the XX, Coldplay, etc. I absolutely love to dance, I’ve been dancing Jazz for about 3 years now. But sports, I’m not big on them. I used to play soccer as a kid, but I’ve never been really good at sports. I enjoy watching American Football, though (Go Steelers!). I love reading, I am kind of geekish, I really put a lot of effort into my grades and I enjoy it because I adore learning new things. I am fluent in Spanish, English and German and I’m currently learning French. I love traveling and one of my biggest dreams is to live in New York City.

Anyway, I decided to start this blog because, let’s get real, Cuernavaca is not big on fashion and I really need to get my thoughts out there and what better way than to share them with the world. I assure you, we would all love to go to school Gossip Girl style every day, with Manolos in our feet and a Louis Vuitton hanging on our arm, but girls, let’s face it: everyday, normal, typical college girls cannot afford it. And I seriously think it’s ridiculous to go to school wearing 8 inch stilettos, how uncomfortable is that?

So here I will be writing about how you can be a recessionista (recession + fashionista). How you should dress for class, for a job interview, special occasions, etc. I will also post pictures of my own style and articles about the latest trends.

Walk your college’s hallways feeling as confident as though you were Tyra Banks walking down the catwalk.

How did your interest in fashion begin? What else would you like me to talk about in this blog? Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions.
