Pantone's Color of the year: Radiant Orchid1:18 PM
I have always been very drawn to color’s psychology because I think it’s a very interesting topic and something that is completely accurate. I think that by being in a room in which the walls are painted a certain color, our mood gets affected. I also believe that by wearing certain colors we can reflect how we are feeling that particular day, even if we didn’t choose that color consciously. Because of my interest for this particular topic, I decided to write a post about Pantone’s Fashion Color Report for Spring 2014 and the announcement of the color of the year.
If you don't know this already, Pantone is a corporation which better known as Pantone Matching System (PMS), which allows the existence of a color systematization and standardization, so industries will know exactly what color they're going to get. Pantone is used in many areas, such as printing, fabric and paint manufacture and plastics. Click here to read more about Pantone.
In order to choose the color of the year, Pantone has to look for color influences in different areas, not only in fashion. For example the entertainment industry, art collections, films, sport events, industrial design, etc. 2010 color of the year was Turquoise, 2011 was Honeysuckle, 2012 Tangerine Tango, 2013 Emerald and as you must already know, the color for 2014 is Radiant Orchid, which was very present in the spring fashion shows during Fashion Week. I was thrilled to know that this would be the color of the year, because purple is my favorite color and I loved this particular shade.
According to Pantone, “Radiant Orchid’s rosy undertones radiate on the skin, producing a healthy glow when worn by both men and women […] enlivens the skin, making all who wear it feel more healthy and energetic. Blending both cool and warm undertones, purple is an appealing hue for distinctive combinations and flattering to many hair, eye and skin tones”.
While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination"
