How To Get Shinier Hair

10:49 PM

This is a bit of a different post, but I wanted to share with you what I've started doing for the last couple of weeks. Fashion is about the overall look, not only clothes and shoes. You have to wear the right thing, have nice hair and wear a signature perfume. Everything counts.
I've always had a really complicated type of hair. When I was a little girl I used to have really, really straight hair. My mom used to struggle because she couldn't get my hair to stay up in a ponytail. When I started growing up, it began to get thicker and not so straight. I used to get this really awful knots at the base of my head and I would stay for like an hour in the shower and use a whole bottle of conditioner to get it out...it was awful. Anyways, hair gets damaged very easily. Because we wash it everyday, the chemicals in the products we use, the heat from straighteners and blow dryers...etc etc etc. I get split ends very easily...even if I've just had a haircut, a week later split ends will start showing up. My hair gets really dry and I don't even put it through a rough time that often. I've come to the conclusion that it's because I wash it every single day. I know it's bad but I won't stop doing it, since I exercise every day, it'd be disgusting if I didn't wash it afterwards.
So if you're like me and you have to put a lot of effort for your hair to be shiny and not as damaged...I have the solution for you!

1. Only wash your hair daily if, like me, there's absolutely no way not to do it. If you have no problem with not washing it every day, do it every 3 days or every other day...you'll notice the big change!

2. If you absolutely need to wash it every single day, apply shampoo only on the roots and really focus your washing there, since it's where all the grease and oil forms. After this, apply conditioner only at the ends so you won't get the roots oily. This really makes a difference!

3. Apply hair masks once or twice a week. I bet you're wondering... what kind of hair masks? Here are my favorite ones and the ones that have really worked for me.

Avocado Hair Mask

What you'll need:
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp essential oil (whichever you want, olive, coconut, etc.)
- shower cap

If your hair is dry, this will work wonders! Avocado has many, many amazing properties and vitamins that will really help that damaged hair! Smash the avocado and mix the other ingredients. Apply it in all your hair, focusing in the most damaged parts i.e. split ends. Put on a shower cap and let it sit for at least an hour and wash as you normally would. Do a final cold water rinse.

Banana Hair Mask
What you'll need:
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp essential oil
- Shower cap

Same as the previous one. Do exactly the same thing. Bananas proteins will give you that shiny hair everyone will be jealous of.

Yogurt Hair Mask
What you'll need:
- 1/4 cup natural, non sweetened greek yogurt (depends on how much hair you have)
- 3 tbsp honey
- shower cap

This mask amazes me every time. I can instantly feel the difference and my hair feels like it's been washed by angels after I apply it.

Mayo Hair Mask

What you'll need:
- 1/4 cup mayo
- 1 egg white
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- shower cap

Yep.. you will smell like a salad and it will be disgusting, I know. However...it's definitely worthy!!
Just try it and you will see... You'll maybe have to wash it a couple times to get the smell out. I'd do it saturday night and not go out sunday, so on monday it smells like roses again!

This are my favorirte hair masks and I've seriously seen a difference since I've started using them. Apply a hair mask twice a week if your hair is really damaged, once it gets better, do it only once a week. Too much protein on your hair can be counter productive and it will get more damaged.
As you've seen honey is in almost every recipe, this is because honey is amazing! It has so many properties, it's so good for you!! Use it on your face to make pimples go away, to fade acne scars, use it as a sweetener instead of sugar... so much healthier and non fattening! I use it in my morning smoothies and they taste delicious!

  1. Brilliant article. I use coconut oil from my childhood but not other oil.Now I heard about tea tree oil. Coconut oil, almond oil, Jojoba oil & castor oil are very effective for hair growth & prevent hair damage .They also repair damage hair.Honey and banana also help to prevent hair fall.
